news: Human rights record condemned as UK makes last-ditch clemency appeal
(source > guardian)
Whether he is guilty or not guilty of the crime he has been accused of, evidence suggests that he is suffering from severe delusional illness. (Here’s more info from the Guardian about him). The Chinese are executing someone who was not able to exercise responsibility for his actions or to understand the nature of what he was doing due to his mental and emotional state. Anyone with an ounce of humanity in them knows it is wrong to execute mentally ill people.
There is no justification for the death penalty anywhere and there is no evidence that the death penalty is a meaningful deterrent.
